How do I apply for a spot?
+
Fill out the application on our
Apply page, or email us at
northmyrtlehousing@gmail.com with any questions first. Houses fill up quickly — the sooner you apply and pay your deposit, the better your choice of rooms.
Our standard minimum is 12 weeks (about 3 months). Shorter stays are possible, but they have a higher upfront deposit to cover the missing weeks. See our
Pricing page for full details and examples.
What happens to my deposit?
+
For a standard 12-week stay, the deposit is $250 (higher for shorter stays — see
Pricing). At checkout, $150 is returned to you. The $100 kept covers cleaning, plus the bed sheets, pillow, blanket, and dishes we provide for your stay. If you damage the house or housemates' belongings, your $150 refund will not be returned.
When should I check in?
+
Please let us know your check-in date and time in advance. All students check in at their assigned housing. For late check-ins, contact us ahead of time and we will give you instructions.
There is public transportation in North Myrtle Beach, but most students rent or buy a bike for the season. All our housing is within 3 miles of the busy summer job areas — an easy bike ride, even on hot days.
Where can I buy food and groceries?
+
Walmart and several major supermarkets are nearby. Most housemates go grocery shopping together on weekends — a good way to save money and try cooking together.
What do the rooms look like?
+
Most rooms typically fit 4 people with bunk beds, and have a bathroom (private or shared, depending on the property). Photos of each house are on our
Houses page — click any house to see photos of the rooms inside.
Yes. Many students arrive with friends from their home country. Tell us when you apply and we will try to place you in the same house, or at least walking distance from each other.
Can my partner and I stay together?
+
Yes — some of our properties have couple rooms with a queen bed. Couple rooms are limited, so please email us directly at
northmyrtlehousing@gmail.com to ask about availability before you apply online. Both partners are jointly responsible for the rent and the room.
What if my partner and I break up while in a couple room?
+
We understand things happen. When you book a couple room together, both partners are responsible for the rent and the room for the full stay — even if the relationship ends. If something happens, please come to us and we will help where we can. We can sometimes move one of you to a different room in the same house if space is available — but if we do, you are responsible for paying the rent on both rooms (the original couple room AND your new room). Please be cautious when deciding to book a couple room together — we strongly recommend discussing expectations before you book.
Most students do not bring cars, but we do have limited parking at most houses. Let us know in advance if you will have a vehicle so we can plan a space for you.
What languages do you speak?
+
Priscilla speaks both Spanish and English. John speaks English. We have hosted students from over thirty countries, so we are very used to working with all levels of English — write or speak to us at any level and we will understand.
Do you accept all J1 students?
+
Yes — we host students from any country on any J1 program. Whether you are with CIEE, InterExchange, Greenheart, or another sponsor, you are welcome here.
What if I am not happy with my room?
+
Talk to us. We have been doing this since 2015 — we can usually move you to a different room or house if there is space. We want you to enjoy your summer.
